Title: Concept-Based Readability of Web Services Descriptions
Authors: Pananya Sripairojthikoon, Twittie Senivongse
Abstract: Web Services is a technology for building distributed software applications that are built upon a set of information and communication standards. Among those standards is the Web Services Description Language (WSDL) which is an XML-based language for describing service descriptions. Service providers will publish WSDL documents of their Web services so that service consumers can learn about service capability and how to interface with the services. Since WSDL documents are the primary source of service information, readability of WSDL documents is of concern to service providers, i.e. service descriptions should be understood with ease by service consumers. Providing highly readable service descriptions can then be used as a strategy to attract service consumers. However, given highly readable information in the WSDL documents, competitors are able to learn know-how and can copy the design to offer competing services. Security attacks such as information espionage, client impersonation, command injection, and denial of service are also possible since attackers can learn about exchanged data and invocation patterns from WSDL documents. While readability of service descriptions makes Web services discoverable, it contributes to service vulnerability too. Service designers therefore should consider this trade-off when designing service descriptions. Currently there is no readability measurement for WSDL documents. We propose an approach to such measurement so that service designers can determine if readability is too low or too high with regard to service discoverability, service imitation, and service attack issues, and then can consider increasing or lowering service description readability accordingly. Our readability measurement is based on the concepts or terms in service domain knowledge. Given a WSDL document as a service description, readability is defined in terms of the use of difficult words in the description and the use of words that are key concepts in the service domain. As an example, we measure readability of the WSDL document of public Web services, and outline a method to lower or increase readability.

Title: A Machine Learning-based Usability Evaluation Method for eLearning Systems
Authors: Asil Oztekin, Dursun Delen, Ali Turkyilmaz, Selim Zaim
Abstract: The research presented in this paper proposes a new machine learning-based evaluation method for assessing the usability of eLearning systems. Three machine learning methods (support vector machines, neural networks and decision trees) along with multiple linear regression are used to develop prediction models in order to discover the underlying relationship between the overall eLearning system usability and its predictor factors. A subsequent sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine the rank-order importance of the predictors. Using both sensitivity values along with the usability scores, a metric (called severity index) is devised. By applying a Pareto-like analysis, the severity index values are ranked and the most important usability characteristics are identified. The case study results show that the proposed methodology enhances the determination of eLearning system problems by identifying the most pertinent usability factors. The proposed method could provide an invaluable guidance to the usability experts as to what measures should be improved in order to maximize the system usability for a targeted group of end-users of an eLearning system.

Title: A Structural Analysis of Emerging Production Systems
Authors: Luis Ribeiro, Rogrio Rosa, Jos Barata
Abstract: A cornerstone of modern production paradigms is the encapsulation of heterogeneity and system complexity. This functional encapsulation is supported by distinct architectural building blocks that once instantiated abstract, manage and control a specific system. Modern production approaches rely in semi hierarchical architectures to organize the interactions between these blocks. In runtime this specific structure promotes a self-organizing response resulting from concurrent interaction between the systems components. This paper simulates the execution of processes in a network of mechatronic agents comprising products, processes abstractions and resources and analyses the impact of the typical network structure envisioned by modern production paradigms in respect to the time consumed in the production process.

Title: Function optimisation by learning automata
Authors: QH Wu , HL Liao
Abstract: This paper presents a new algorithm, Function Optimisation by Learning Automata (FOLA), to solve complex function optimisation problems. FOLA consists of multiple automata, in which each automaton undertakes dimensional search on a selected dimension of the solution domain. A search action is taken on a path which is identified in the search space by the path value, and the path value is updated using the values of the states visited in the past, via a state memory that enables better use of the information collected in the optimisation process. In this paper, FOLA is compared with two popularly used particle swarm optimisers and four newly-proposed optimisers, on nine complex multi-modal benchmark functions. The experimental results have shown that in comparison with the other optimisers, FOLA offers better performance for most of the benchmark functions, in terms of its convergence rate and accuracy, and it uses much less computation time to obtain accurate solutions, especially for high-dimensional functions. In order to explore the FOLA s potential for applications, it is also applied to solve an optimal power flow problem of power systems. FOLA is able to minimise the fuel cost and enhance the voltage stability of the power system more efficiently in comparison with the other algorithms.

Title: A Survey of Ant Colony Optimization-Based Approaches to Routing in Computer Networks
Authors: Peter Janacik Dalimir Orfanus Adrian Wilke
Abstract: Nature has provided an elegant solution for the routing problem millions of years ago, when ant colonies started to use swarm intelligence to discover food and route it reliably to their formicaries. The approach utilized by ants has several advantages that are also useful in computer networks: complete distribution, load balancing finding shortest paths with a high probability. Several routing protocols designed for the area of computer networks have made use of this approach, called ant colony optimization. This paper provides first a broad overview of ant colony optimization-based routing protocols, while focusing on four selected approaches in later sections, describing their operation and discussing their properties in detail.
